Why were Adam and Eve sent out of the Garden and from the Tree of Life?
(Q and A column; T & T. ; Nov.2013; byJ Allen)
Adam, in concert with Eve his "help-meet for him," was
placed over all creation, as set forth in Psalm 8:5-6 (including angels who
were ministering spirits to mankind).
"For Thou hast made Him a little lower than ELOHIM, (I know the LXX
is quoted in Hebrews 2:9 and it reads "angels" but this is the state
to which the fall brought Adam and the race – Adam was created a little lower
than "Elohim"). And hast crowned Him with glory and honor, Thou
madest Him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands, Thou hast put all
things under His feet."
Thus Adam, as head of creation, had to be tested and God did exactly
this in the two trees placed exactly in the midst of the Garden - the phrase is
linked with both trees (see Gen 2:9, NET). The trees were for tests in
two areas of man's personality: Truth and
Tidings; Nov.2013.
Strange
Mutterings from Truth and Tidings
Mr J Allen,
a leading Brethren teacher, writes that Adam, together with his wife, were to
have dominion over all creation, including the angels. Mr Allen seems to be
saying that the pair were to be a little lower than gods (elohim), but the fall
caused God to alter this to being ranked under the angels. This apparently happening in retrospect
because the angels were already placed.
But there is greater confusion in this statement because
Mr Allen wrote, “I know the LXX is
quoted in Hebrews 2: 9.” Mr Allen apparently knows old wives fables are true. But
he has not seen the slightest shred of evidence for the existence of the
Septuagint (LXX) prior to the third century AD.
The writer to the Hebrews did not and could not have
quoted from the LXX.. The Received
Text, so loathed by the Brethren Teachers, has aggelos, angels, at Hebrews
2: 9 referring to Jesus in the body of His humiliation. The AV translators also
knew that elohim in Psalm 8 also had
to be translated angels.
Slight differences in the New Testament quotes of Old
Testament statements must be attributed to the Author, the Spirit of God, Who
has every right to adapt His own word. Those who refuse the verbal inspiration
of Scripture make a multitude of problems for themselves/
In quoting Psalm 8, the personal pronoun Him (sic) has been given a capital H by Mr
Allen, suggesting the verse is not about
man at all but about Christ, or does he believe that that Adam was created
a god, possessed of deity?
