Modern English Version

Modern English Version

The Modern English Bible was published in 2014 by Charisma House. It is the product of a group of Pentecostalists and Southern Baptists, many of whom were or are military chaplains. Copyright is held by the Military Bible Association.
The MEV is meant to be an update of the KJV Bible and therefore it follows the Received Text.
According to its preface, quoted by Mary Harwell Sayer, it was to provide an update by [American]  military chaplains for the troops so they could understand the KJV better.
The target readers are millennials, (those born between 1982 and 2004) and American troops
The senior editorial adviser was Stanley M Horton, a notorious pentecostal charismatic, whose moher was “baptized in the Holy Ghost” Azusa street revival in 1906 when she was eleven years old.
Horton was the man who shaped modern pentecostal theology, which is seriously heretical.
Pentecostalism was from its outset regarded as a heretical cult.

The chief editor is J F Linzey, a Southern Baptist, and Army Chaplain and serves on the St. Elias Seminary faculty.
Linzey is described as anti-semitic on talk2action.org.

This month, May 2015, the Southern Baptist Convention lifted the bar on its missionaries speaking in tongues.(Way of Life, Friday News, 22/5/2015)

Some changes in the MEV

Deuteronomy 1: 1
These be the words which Moses spake…on this side Jordan   AV
Thes are the words which Moses spoke….on the other side of the Jordan.  MEV

Moses died in the wilderness. He did not cross the Jordan. The MEV denies Moses to be the writer of Deuteronomy. They place themselves among the higher critics. They deny the testimony of Christ Who attrbuted the whole Pentateuch to Moses. (Mark 12 : 26)
They describe this as an “update” of the KJV but change the words to a very opposite meaning.

See my AV Verses notes on this verse

1 Kings 14: 24
There were also sodomites in the land  AV

There were also male cult prostitutes in the land    MEV

The MEV alteration here does not represent the Hebrew text.

John 1: 14
The glory as of the only begotten of the Father.    AV
The glory as of the only son of the Father   MEV

The AV/KJV has only begotten whis is from the Received Text, monogenes
The MEV departs from the Received Text and turns the verse into a lie
Jesus Christ is not God’s only son. To as many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God.His begottenness is eternal.

I found much more whilst researching this subject that fills me with disgust. Some of it I fear (at the moment) to publish RS

Resurrection clearly taught in Acts 13: 33

Dr West, in the Believer's Magazine, May 2015, repeats the old lie concerning resurrection not being found in Acts 13: 33. He rejects the divinely inspired Scripure.
Thus we repeat here the notes on this verse, published in AV Verses Vindicated by R Smith.

Acts 13:33

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Critics tell us that “again” ought not to be in the verse. Not finding any manuscript variation, they quote from spurious authorities for its exclusion,- JND and the RV. Of course, they might well quote from almost any other modern version, but that might put brethren on their guard.

We quote

In Acts 13.33, where the AV reads, ''God hath fulfilled the same unto us. . .in that he hath raised up Jesus again'', note that the RV and JND, with others, omit the word ''again''. This is not the raising up of Jesus again from the dead, in resurrection, as in vv. 30 and 34. It is His being raised up amongst them as a man, as was David in v.22, ''He raised up unto them David''. This is obviously not resurrection. So, ''Of this man's seed hath God. . .raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus (v.23) . In connection with this true manhood, the apostle quotes the second Psalm in v.33.A Man had been raised up among them who was God's Son.    ̶ ̶  J Flannigan; What the Bible Teaches; Psalms; p23

So why does JND, in Matt.20:19, have “ the third day he shall rise again” and in 1 Thes. 4:13 “Jesus has died and has risen again”. The same word is used here, assuring us that the word in Acts 13:33 is the proper word for resurrection. It is a serious thing when brethren tamper with the word of God to promote their theological opinions. Also note Jn.11:23.

Flannigan’s note is from his commentary on Psalm 2 where he denies the Son to be eternally the only-begotten of the Father. This error is the product of Arianism. John tells us no man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (Jn.1:18). Again, God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. (1 Jn.4:9). This is an eternal relationship.

The prefix ana- indicates repetition. The Anabaptists were those believers accused of re-baptising. (They rejected infant sprinkling and were baptised by immersion as believers.)

Leeds Brethren get into bed with Islam, with the Help of Precious Seed

"On the 19th of November 2014 the Leeds Muslim Youth Forum held a fair at the Hamara Centre to which many different faith-inspired organizations were invited to have a stall. They were seeking to attract organizations who had been inspired by their faith to do good for their communities and to make a positive contribution to society. Schools were booked to attend the fair, and all participants were asked to plan an activity for children to participate in.
The organizers contacted Precious Seed (Faith Matters) [sic] and the information was passed onto the believers in Harehills Gospel Hall, Leeds, to see if they would be interested in staffing a stall. Ruth, one of the sisters in the assembly, became the main organizer and, along with others, staffed the stall.
They report as follows, ‘We felt everything went really well, there were different stalls representing different groups – police, women’s support, Islam, Sikh sword fighting, etc. About eight school groups came to our stall to do cake decorating and loom band making. These activities were linked to creation. Every child, and everyone who passed the stall, got a goody bag containing a DVD called “The Cross”. For some, it was an immediate turn-off, for others it was the reason they stopped and spoke with us "

So now we know where J Scarsbrook,  J Bennett, and the rest of the Precious Seed crowd stand. Bible believers are recommended to download the free e-book, The Bible and Islam. available via the www.wayoflife.org website.

When Elijah put up his stall (altar) next to the Baal stall, and Elijah mocked the Baal worshippers, was this a serious case of Baalophobia?
